Embark on a 1 Day Adventure to the Stunning Doi Pha Ngam
Experience the Natural Beauty of Doi Pha Ngam on a Day Hike
Get Lost in Nature with a 1 Day Trek to Doi Pha Ngam and Its Surroundings
"Pha Ngam" or another name called "Two season Cliff"
is located near the Chiang Mai-Khun Wang Agricultural Research Center and is
under the management of Doi Inthanon National Park.
The name "Pha
Ngam" or "Two Season Cliff" is derived from the fact that the summit
of the mountain is divided into two sides, each with distinctly different
climates. For example, one side may be shrouded in mist while the other has
only a cool breeze. In order to see the contrast between the two sides, you
must trek up to the top of Phra That Khun Wang, where the differing views can
be observed.
If you stay at the
viewpoint on the mountain, you may not be able to fully appreciate the contrast
between the two sides. Instead, you must hike up to the top of Phra That Khun
Wang to witness these differing views.
The distance from the starting point to the summit is
approximately 3-4 kilometers, and it takes around 3 hours to complete the hike,
not including the return trip. The trail begins at the Chiang Mai-Khun WangAgricultural Research Center, passes through local farms, and winds its way up
a steep and heavily forested incline.
As you hike up to the top, you'll come across a long, flat
walkway that runs along the mountain ridge. It's a popular spot for taking
pictures, and everyone who visits takes a snapshot to keep as a memory. The
path itself is not steep and has a gentle slope, but it boasts spectacular
views of the landscape below.
Along the way, you'll encounter ancient rhododendron
bushes that have been growing for thousands of years. During the winter months
between November and January, you'll have a chance to witness the vibrant red
blooms of the rhododendron, which are not only visually stunning but also
sweetly scented. These flowers attract a variety of small birds and insects
that come to feast on their nectar, making it an excellent spot for bird
watching enthusiasts. If you love bird watching, then you definitely shouldn't
miss out on this opportunity.
Once you've trekked up to the top, you'll come across the
highly revered Phra That Khun Wang, which is a sacred site for the locals and
many others. It stands out prominently, providing a place for visitors to pay
their respects and seek blessings for themselves. This is the main highlight of
the trek, as it allows you to enjoy the stunning and unique views of both sides
of the mountain, which are divided by the distinctly different climates on
either side. As you face the cliff, the opposing winds from each side meet,
providing a cool breeze that revitalizes the body and soothes the mind, helping
you to forget the exhaustion of the trek.
For those of you who enjoy hiking, we recommend the PhaNgam-Two Season Cliff trek. This trail is not only fun and challenging, but
also boasts its own natural beauty.
After fully enjoying the beauty of the trek, we will
return on a different route than the one we ascended. This path is less steep
and easier to walk, with small fields of grass and fallen trees along the way,
a contrast to the dense forests we encountered during the ascent. The descent
takes about 3 hours and will lead us to the pickup point
where we can be picked up and return to Chiang Mai, concluding the trip.
After fully enjoying the beauty of the place, we will take
a different path to descend, which will be less steep and relatively easier
than the path we took to ascend. Along the way, we will encounter small grassy
fields and low-lying plants, which is different from the forested and steep
path we took to ascend.
It will take approximately 2-3 hours
to descend and reach the pick-up point where we can be picked up to return to
Chiang Mai. This marks the end of the trip.
